Here, one must know about the usage of Ice tools, crampons, carabiners and other climbing anchors. It is a quite challenging and thrilling experience for adventurous souls. This expedition usually takes 24-25 days to complete which includes buffer days, training days and acclimatization days. The best months to go on this expedition will be May, June, September and October. This will push your limits, challenge you and will prepare you for 6000 meter plus peaks in India.

With conical shape from top, Shivling peak is a twin-summit mountain with rocky & steep surface and falling seracs near glaciers. This trekking route passes through verdant meadow and heavenly vistas of snow beds. This route is also for famous holy Gangotri Glacier (Gaumukh) which is the main source of Bhagirathi River in Uttarakhand. Shivling peak can be seen very prominently from Gaumukh, where regular people come to worship and the trek also flags off from this place. Other than Gangotri, there are some famous glaciers in region like Meru Bamak Glacier in north of the mountain and Kirti Bamak Glacier. The daunting peaks and remote Himalayan life on this expedition is a delight to adventurous souls and nature lovers.

As Mount Shivling trek starts from Gangotri so, one has to drive via Rishikesh, Uttarkashi & reaching Gangotri. After completing the legal formalities with local administration like undertakings and permits we’ll start walking towards Bhojbasa our first camping sight at an elevation of 3729 m. It is the best camping place of Uttarkashi region. This fascinating meadow will leave you speechless with snow peaks around and Mount Shivling summit right in front standing so high. Some trekkers, who just begin with trekking experiences or learning new trekking skills choose Tapovan base camp as their destination and return back from here.

At Tapovan base camp, mountaineers are advised to stay here for some days to acclimatize to the weather and altitude as further the summit is quiet higher than this. People usually reserve 10-14 days at base camp for preparation, fitness check and buffer for weather condition. These days usually pass by ascending towards high altitude, setting camps, fixing ropes or anchors wherever needed and coming back to base camp for night. Then again another day climbing up to a higher altitude, getting trained and coming back. This will continue till everything goes favourable and everyone is ready to climb Mount Shivling, the final summit.

The final day of climbing Mount Shivling should start early in dark as the there will be mixed climbing with snowy and icy trail which is tough and tiring. But reaching the altitude of 6543 m and getting an absolute treat of captivating view of different Himalayan ranges from the summit will relax you entirely.
