About Dodital Lake and the trail

Dodital sits at about 3,024 m in Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand. It is named after a Himalayan trout called Dodi in the local language, and the trout still live in the lake. People consider the place holy. Many say Lord Ganesha was born here, and a temple stands next to the lake.

The trail runs through meadows and forests of deodar, oak, pine and bamboo, with the Himalayan range in view from the lake. It looks different under snow, which is why many people prefer it as a winter trek. The Dodital trek on its own ends at the lake. This package adds the Darwa Top climb on Day 4.

Is this trek right for you?

Who the Dodital Darwa Top trek suits

  • You are new to the Himalayas but walk or run regularly. The forest trail is gentle, and the climb to Darwa Top is the only steep part.
  • You want a lake camp and a high viewpoint in one trip.
  • You can walk most of the day four days in a row.

Who should think twice

  • Your knees dislike long descents. Day 5 is about 22 to 24 km downhill.
  • You need a guaranteed view from the top. Snow decides how long the Darwa Top climb takes.

If you want a shorter walk to a meadow instead of a lake, look at our Dayara Bugyal trek, which also starts from Uttarkashi.
