The Nun Peak expedition is a dream adventure for aspiring mountaineers who want to conquer one of the most stunning peaks in the Indian Himalayas. Mount Nun stands at an impressive altitude of approximately 7,135 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest peaks in the Himalayan range located on the Indian side of the Line of Control in Ladakh. It shares its breathtaking Himalayan beauty with its twin peak, Mt. Kun, which rises to 7,077 meters.

The Nun Kun Massif region also includes peaks like Barmal, White Needle, and Pinnacle Peak, all situated near the Suru Valley in the Zanskar range. Every year, thousands of trained climbers attempt this expedition to experience the raw beauty of the Himalayas and push their limits. As soon as mountaineers arrive in Leh, their journey begins with mesmerizing views of grey aerial glaciers, steep green slopes, towering cliffs, and panoramic landscapes of the Zanskar range.

The Mount Nun climbing expedition is strictly recommended for experienced mountaineers, as the technical ascent involves extreme and unpredictable weather conditions, high-altitude challenges, and rugged terrain. Program

Day 01 – Arrival at Leh

Once you arrive at Leh Airport, you will be welcomed by our representative and your tour guide. The first day of the trip will be more of a layover in Leh, and you will be left to your own devices once you are handed the keys to your hotel room.

You are free to explore Leh at your own pace; you can wander around the local area and try out the various local cuisines. Later in the evening, the tour representative will check your trekking gear and make sure you are fit for the ascent. Afterward, you can refresh yourself and relax, recovering from the jetlag of your journey to Leh.

Day 02 – A Day trip to the famous places of Leh

After breakfast, the tour representative will ask you to resume your journey, with the first day dedicated to visiting the best places in Leh. You will visit famous monasteries like Hemis Monastery, the largest and wealthiest monastery in Leh, where Naropa, an Indian-origin saint, received enlightenment. A spectacular copper statue of Buddha is worshipped in this monastery, along with beautiful wall paintings, sculptures, and various artifacts that add to its magnificence.

Next, you will visit Thiksey Monastery, perched at 11,800 feet, one of the most beautiful monasteries of Leh, where you can find ancient religious texts, journals, and manuscripts. After that, you will visit Stakna Monastery, nestled atop a hill with the Indus River flowing beside it, making it a peaceful and picturesque spot to enjoy.

After this short trip, you will return to your hotel for another layover.

Day 03 – Another religious trip to Leh

Today, you will enjoy another cultural and religious visit. You will visit two monasteries: Shey Monastery, which houses the largest gold-plated statue of Buddha, and is also the location where the famous Bollywood film Three Idiots was shot.

After visiting these famous places, you can explore the local market in Leh, where you can enjoy the local small businesses and maybe buy some souvenirs for yourself.

After this short trip, you will return to your hotel for another layover.

Day 04 – Leaving Leh behind – Arrival at Kargil

Today, you will get ready to move closer to where your trekking journey will start. You will hop on a traveler bus, which will take you to Kargil, passing through unseen highlands and snow-covered valleys. You will make a stop at the Kargil War Memorial, where the history of Indian soldiers is preserved.

You will also witness the magical confluence of the Indus River and Zanskar River. Afterward, you will reach the village of Nimo, where you will enjoy lunch with a breathtaking view. You will then continue your journey downhill, passing the Magnetic Hills of Leh.

When you reach the highest pass, Fotu La, you will enter the moonland of Lamayuru. Later, we will make a trip to Lamayuru Gompa, where you will witness the artistic work of 11th-century sculptors. Once every 5th month on the Tibetan Lunar calendar, a traditional mask dance is held in this monastery.

After traveling throughout the day, you will enjoy a sleepover here, and we remind you that this will be the last place in your expedition where you will have access to steady internet.

Day 05 – Drive to Tangol (2,676 m) from Kargil (3,700 m)

Today, you will drive to Tangol, which is about 75 km away from Kargil. On your way, you will catch the first glimpse of Mount Nun (7135 m) and Mount Kun (7077 m).

When you reach Tangol, the camp will be set up, and you will enjoy a night under the stars.

Day 06 – Trek to the Base Camp (4200 m) from Tangol

Today, you will wake up early and get into your trekking gear for a trek up to the Base Camp. The trek involves crossing loose rocks and climbing steep paths. After about 6–7 hours of trekking, you will reach the base camp and enjoy a night of camping under the stars.

Day 07 - 18 – Climb up to the Summit – Climb down to the Base Camp

For the next 12 days, we will trek towards the summit at an elevation of 7,135 meters, setting up three base camps along the way:

• Base Camp 1 at 5,500 meters
• Base Camp 2 at 6,100 meters
• Base Camp 3 at 6,400 meters

During the trek, you will pass through the moraines of Sentik Glacier and experience majestic views. As you climb, you will encounter rough terrain and steep paths.

Once at the summit, you will enjoy panoramic views of Zanskar Valley, the Karakoram Range, Kashmir Valley, and the untouched beauty of Leh Ladakh. After this adventure, you will return to the base camp and enjoy your final night at the campsite.

Day 19 – Trek down to Tangol from Base Camp – Kargil

Today, you will wake up early, prepare for the descent back to Tangol, and then take a bus back to Kargil. After reaching Kargil, you will stay overnight at a hotel to rest and recover from the trek.

Day 20 – Drive back to Leh from Kargil

After breakfast, you will be driven back to Leh, and along the way, you will have another chance to enjoy the scenic views of the region. Upon reaching Leh, you will check into your hotel and enjoy an overnight stay.

Day 21 – Departure from Leh

After having breakfast in the morning, the tour representative will escort you to Leh Airport and bid you farewell, wishing you a safe and memorable journey ahead.

Best Time to Visit

Mount Nun offers its best climbing conditions between June through September. You will find favourable weather conditions at this time along with manageable snow cover as well as clear skies which provide breathtaking views to the summit.

What’s the Climb Like?

Cancellation Policy

• Cancellation Charges: Notice of cancellation must be made in writing in the name of Himalayan Holidays.
  For cancellations made 60 days prior to the start of the tour, there will be a cancellation fee of 25% of the invoice.
• For cancellations made within 60 to 30 days of the start of the tour, there will be a cancellation charge of 50% of the invoice. For cancellations made within 30 days of the start of the tour, there will be a cancellation charge of 100% of the invoice.
• In certain cases, the cancellation policy (including conditions applicable to the advance deposit made or required for holding the reservation) may differ and would be applicable as per the cancellation policy of that hotel or service provider. This will be charged in addition to the cancellation policy.

Unused Services and Refunds

• No refund will be made for any unused services or other arrangements due to any changes in schedule made by passengers while travelling. However, in certain cases, the refund will be considered as per the policy of the carrier, hotel, tour company, or other supplier used for providing services.
• A refund request must be made within 2 weeks of the completion of the trip.
• If there are any additional expenses due to bad weather or any other reason beyond the control of the tour operator on account of hotel stays, transportation, meals, etc., an extra bill will be raised. Neither Himalayan Holidays. nor the participating suppliers or hotels will be responsible for the additional expenses.

All the packages are sold under the business management of Himalayan Holidays, and they are in no way considered the principal or operator of the subject services. The right is reserved to cancel or alter any package as conditions require. Neither Himalayan Holidays nor the participating suppliers or hotels will be responsible for the additional expenses due to loss, delay or damage caused by accident, illness, bad weather, strikes or riots, roadblocks, etc.

Governing Law

This condition and each term shall be governed by and constructed in accordance with the laws of India without reference to conflict of laws principles, and disputes arising in relation hereto shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New Delhi.
