Mt. Menthosa (6,440 meters) is the second-highest peak of the Lahaul–Spiti region in Himachal Pradesh, Northern India. Towering above the remote Miyar Valley, Mount Menthosa is considered one of the most challenging and rewarding expedition peaks in the Indian Himalayas.

The mountain was first successfully climbed in 1970 by a British Service Expedition led by Capt. S. Bembrose, marking its place in Indian mountaineering history.

Program

Day 01: Arrival in Manali (2050 M)

Arrive in Manali and meet the Himalayan Holiday expedition leader. In the afternoon, a detailed briefing about the Mt. Menthosa Expedition will be conducted, followed by a thorough equipment check to ensure safety and readiness for the climb.

Meal: Dinner only

Day 02: Manali – Udaipur (2745 M) | Drive 110 km

After breakfast, drive to Udaipur via the Atal Tunnel, which connects the Kullu Valley to the remote landscapes of Lahaul. Crossing the tunnel offers a dramatic shift in terrain, culture, and climate. Reach Udaipur and check into a hotel or campsite for an overnight stay.

Day 03: Udaipur – Tingrit – Urgos (3250 M) | Drive 23 km

Today’s short drive takes you deeper into the stunning Miyar Valley, known for its rich cultural heritage and pristine Himalayan scenery. Your guide will share insights into the valley’s traditions and geography during the journey.

Upon reaching Urgos, meet the local expedition team, including the cook, kitchen helpers, porters, and trekking staff. Overnight stay in camps.

Day 04: Urgos – Menthosa Base Camp (4000 M) | Trek 7 km

Begin the trek to Menthosa Base Camp. The 7 km trail is moderately challenging, gradually gaining altitude with panoramic views of surrounding peaks rising above 3,800 meters.

The final section involves a steep ascent, making it physically demanding but highly rewarding. Reach base camp at approximately 4,000 meters, where the main climbing phase begins.

Day 05 – Day 17: Base Camp – Summit Attempt – Return to Base Camp

These 11 days are reserved for:

  • Acclimatization rotations
  • Establishing higher camps
  • Load ferry and technical training

  • Safe descent back to base camp

The climbing phase involves glacier travel, snow slopes, and high-altitude challenges, requiring strong endurance and mountaineering skills.

Day 18: Base Camp – Urgos – Udaipur (2745 M)

After breakfast, dismantle the base camp and trek down to Urgos. From Urgos, drive back to Udaipur. Overnight stay in a hotel or tent.

Day 19: Udaipur – Manali

Post breakfast, drive back to Manali. On arrival, check in at the hotel and enjoy a comfortable overnight stay after the long expedition.
